In 1998 the 170 anniversary of Berdakh Gargabay Uli, the great poet of Karakalpak people was celebrated. According to the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan № 220 from May, 20th 1998 in the capital of our republic Nukus city the museum was constructed.
The total area of the museum is 1, 26 sq.m. and it is a three-storied building with one big and six small domes. The author is well- known architect of our republic, the winner of the state award named after Berdakh Orinbay Toreniyazov.
There are national ornaments, household subjects, national clothes, books on which training in madrassah was conducted, manuscripts,archeological findings, information about representatives of the Karakalpak classical literature and their works, works of talanted people of the XX-th century, and also history of Karakalpak state university named after Berdakh from the date of the foundation till present time.
In the 60s the national award named after Berdakh in literature, culture, science and technics, architecture, art was confirmed.
Information and photos of the awarded are given: A.Tarkovsky translated into Russian epos «Kirik kiz», S.P.Severtsev translated into Russian epos “Sharyar”, Muhammed Ali translated into the Uzbek language epos «Maspatsha».
In the fine arts the image of Berdakh was created in 1950 by the Moscow artist V.D.Kamenev on the basis of appearance of Seytnazar- Berdakh’s grandson and Ayteke’s son.
Later on the basis of a portrait painted by Kamenev, Berdakh’s portrait painted by Jawinger Berdimuratov was created and recognized. This image is used now. In a hall of manuscripts of the museum, there are historical manuscripts and publication books written in Arabian, Persian, Turkic and old Karakalpak languages.
At the museum annually such days as Navoi’s Day, Maktimkuli’s, Abay’s, day of the great poet Berdakh are celebrated.
In 2004 the administration and museum employees held the scientific-theoretical conference on the issue of determining the date of Berdakh’s day.
From the beginning of this year, the 27th of November was marked as Berdakh’s Day .In future the museum will be replenished with scientific works about the great poet..
