THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC – PRACTICAL SEMINAR IN COOPERATION WITH THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AT KARAKALPAK STATE UNIVERSITY

On purpose of scientific – practical supporting the measures conducted by our country on solving the Aral Sea ecological problem and minimizing the negative impact of the natural disaster on health of the people living in the Aral Sea basin region, the economics and national economy of our republic, at Karakalpak State University there has been held the international scientific – practical seminar.

  On April 16 – 17, 2019 at Karakalpak State University there was the international scientific – practical seminar called «The ecosystem and water resources of the Aral Sea basin», which was organized by Karakalpak State University in cooperation with National University of Uzbekistan, Natural Resources and Geographical Research Institute of the People’s Republic of China, Central Asian Center for Ecology and Environmental Researches of Academy of Sciences of China and Tibetan Plain Scientific Research Institute.

   As we know, till the 1960s, the Aral Sea was one of the largest reservoirs in the world. Its area was 1083 km3, its length was 426 km, its width was 284 km and the maximum depth was 68 m. The sea served as a climate regulation and mitigated sudden changes in the weather throughout the region. It had a positive impact on the people’s living conditions, national economy productivity and ecological conditions. And also, the year amount of fish was about 40000 tons per year which was the main foodstuff of the population.

  At present, more than half of the gene pool of flora and fauna in the region of the Aral Sea basin has been destroyed by sea level dropping. 11 species of fish, 12 species of mammals, 26 species of birds and 11 species of plants disappeared.

   At the opening ceremony of the international seminar organized at Karakalpak State University named after Berdakh, Rector of Karakalpak State University named after Berdakh A.Reymov, Deputy Director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of Academy of Sciences of China Professor Yu.Chjang, Professor of the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources of Academy of Sciences of China Y. Luo, Professor of National University of Uzbekistan R.Kulmatov and others noted that organizing this event will give a basis for the development of scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.

   We believe that the scientists and researchers of higher educational institutions and scientific – research centers from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, China and other countries participating at the international scientific-practical seminar held at Karakalpak State University will contribute to the scientifically – practical solution of the Aral Sea problem.
