Training for English language teachers

English language teachers organized by the British Council in the Republic of Uzbekistan was held at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at KSU. Aidan Holland, the Chief project manager of Global Assessment Solutions, as well as the coordinator of training manuals at the British Council, shared his experience and knowledge on Aptis. He has a Master’s degree in TEFL/SL from the University of Birmingham and currently has a special interest in language assessment testing.

Master classes and seminars were designed for teachers of higher educational institutions. The training was attended by more than 30 people who received certificates and a welcome pack confirming that they have successfully completed the training and will be able to apply their knowledge in practice.

Here are just some of the topics that were included in the rich program of the training:

  • understanding the quality, validity and reliability aspects and test scoring system;
  • understanding tasks and CEFR levels at B2 and C;
  • insider tips on Speaking and Writing – What examiners are looking for?
  • Q&A section.

The most valuable feature of the training is its practical orientation. Each of the proposed methods and methods of training was worked out during group, pair or individual work. According to the results of the master classes, the participants presented several group and individual projects: they created their own info charts and blogs, developed additional tasks for textbook materials, practiced setting goals and developing optimal ways to achieve them. This approach guarantees the consolidation of new skills and the willingness to apply them in working with students.

All participants of the training express their sincere gratitude to the British Council, as well as to Aidan Holland for informative and effective training, clear organization of work and the opportunity to consolidate the knowledge gained in practice.
