In 1983, the Faculty of Philology of Karakalpak State University organized the Department of “Journalism”. In 1989, the department was transformed into the department “Theory of Literature and Journalism.” The department was headed by Professor K.Mambetov. Since 1992, a separate department of “Journalism” has been organized, which in 1992-1999 was headed by associate professor M.Zhumamuratova. The department has established work on the study of Karakalpak journalism and the improvement of scientific personnel; A. Abdimuratov, D. Bekbayeviev, Z. Kozhyybabaev defended their candidate works. The department was headed in 2000-2002 by Z. Kozhiқbaeva, 2002-2006 by B. Palganov, 2006-2009 by Yu. Pakhratdinov, 2009-2014 by D. Bekbagliyev. From 2014 to the present, the department is headed by Ph.D., associate professor Z.Orazymbetova. In the first years in the training of journalistic personnel, the work was conducted by philologists, professors and teachers K.Mambetov, S.Akhmetov, S.Sadyқov, K.Allambergenov, G.Esemuratov, A.Nәzhimov, I.Өteўliyev and journalism specialists M.Zhumamuratova, Sh. Ayapov, K. Reyma and others. In the following years, journalists S.Sh.Usnatdinov, R.Dәўletmuratov, K.Reimov, .Esbergenov worked at the department. In accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 26, 1999 “On Improving the Training and Retraining of Journalist Personnel”, in April the Department of Journalism was transformed into a department of journalism. The department was headed by: in 1999–2000, Professor B. Abdikamalov, 2000–2002, Sh. Abdinazimov, 2002–2004, B. Genzhemuratov, 2004–2005, B. Palganov.From the first years of independence, special attention was paid to the training of journalists. To date, the department of journalism has 12 professors, teachers, 8 of them are candidates of science and associate professors. The level of scientific 70%.Until today, more than 20 textbooks and teaching aids, monographs have been printed. Every year, in honor of the holiday “May 3 – World Press Freedom Day”, a programmatic Republican scientific-practical conference is held on the theme “The Process of Globalization and the Role of the Mass Media”, which is organized by the Department of Journalism on an international and republican scale. Professor professors of the department in close contact with foreign and domestic universities, research centers. For 5 years (2015-2020) an agreement was concluded on a curriculum for scientific conferences with the State University of World Languages of Uzbekistan. At present, work is underway on the basis of this agreement, scientific conferences are being held in Tashkent and Nukus. 
Every year, students are given lectures by the professor of the Uzbek National University, F. I. Muminov and F. A. Muminov. Associate Professor M. Zhumamuratova in 2007 in Malaysia, 2017 in Georgia, in 2018 in Tatarstan participated in scientific-theoretical conferences, Associate Professor B. Palganov made scientific visits in 2006 to Russia, in 2008 to Sweden, in 2011 to Belgium , Kazakhstan, in 2018 to Italy. Associate Professor B. Palganov is the coordinator of the project 544061-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-UK-TEEMPUS JPCR HIGHVEC “Development of curricula for the engineering construction of highways and transport engineering”. In order to increase the scientific and creative abilities of students, the “Club for the Training of Young Journalists” is organized, the members of which annually become winners of republican competitions.

Bekbagliev Dauletbay Oskinbayevich, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor. Born in 1964 in the Khojali district. In 1989 he graduated from Nukus State University. Specialty journalism. In 1997 he defended his thesis on the topic “The Karakalpak press in the years of independence (on the example of 1991-1995)” More than 40 scientific articles and 2 textbooks were published. In 2009-2014 he worked as head of the department of journalism. Since 2014, Associate Professor.Since 2019 ,he has held the position of head of the journalism department

 
 
 
 

Orazymbetova Zliha Kydyrbaevna, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1972 in the Khojali district. In 1994 she graduated from Karakalpak State University. Specialty journalism. In 2006 she defended her thesis on the topic “The Establishment of the Language of the Karakalpak Periodical Press” (1924-1940). More than 50 scientific articles and 4 textbooks have been published. 

 

 

 

Zhumamuratova Malika Tilebergenovna, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1956 in Nukus. In 1978 she graduated from Tashkent State University. In 1992 she defended her thesis on the theme “National and international in the works of folk shairs (based on the works of A. Musayev, A. Dabylov, S. Nuryumbetova, T. Dzhumamuratova)”. More than 100 scientific articles, 1 monograph, 3 textbooks, 5 teaching aids have been published. Since 1999, assistant professor of journalism.

 
 
 
 
 

 

Қozhiқbaeva Ziyada Adilbayevna, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1964 in the city of Nukus. In 1988 she graduated from Nukus State University. Specialty journalism. In 1998 she defended her thesis on the theme “An artistic sketch in modern Karakalpak literature (on the material from 1980-1990)”. More than 50 scientific articles, 1 textbook, 4 methodical manuals were published. Since 2008, Associate Professor at the Department of Journalism.

 

 

 

Palhanov Bakhytbai Nurlybaevich, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department. Born in 1974 in the Chimbay district. In 1996 he graduated from Karakalpak State University. Specialty journalism. In 2007 he defended his thesis on the topic “Essays in modern Karakalpak literature.” More than 30 scientific works have been published. Since 2008, she has been working as an associate professor in the journalism department.

 

 

 

Abdimuratov Upsamet Uzaқbaevich, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1962 in the city of Nukus. In 1988 he graduated from Karadalpak State University named after Berdakh. Specialty journalist. In 1997 he defended his thesis on the topic “Publicism by T. Kaipbergenov: themes, specificity and skills”. More than 40 scientific articles, 2 textbooks were published. Since 2018 he has been working as an associate professor in the department of journalism.

 

 

Atazhanov Khurmet Abdimuratovich, candidate of philological sciences. Born in 1977 in the city of Nukus. Specialty journalism. In 2000 he graduated from Karakalpak State University. In 2012 he defended his thesis on the topic “Questions of spirituality in the Karakalpak press.” More than 25 scientific articles and theses were published. Since 2015 she has been working as a senior teacher in the department of journalism.

 

 

 

Masharipova Tamara Zholdasbayevna, Ph.D. in philological science (PhD). She was born in 1968 in Shumanay district. Specialty journalism. In 1989 she graduated from Karakalpak State University. In 2017 she defended her thesis on the topic: “One whole concept of the theory of journalism.” More than 40 scientific articles and theses were published. Since 2018 he has been working as a senior teacher in the department of journalism.

Also at the department in the position of assistants are Z.Marziyev, E.Zharimbetov, M.Kudaybergenov, Қ.Begniyazova.
