Department of Karakalpak literature

The history of the department begins with the opening in 1936 of the Karakalpak language and literature department at Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute. The founder and chairpersons of the department was a well-known philologist, N. Davkaraev, a doctor of philological sciences. In the 1950s, the department was provided with young personnel. From this point of view, the accession of such young promising people of that time as S.Akhmetov, K.Maksetov, B.Ismaylov, I.Yusupov was the achievement of the department. In the 1950s, such famous scientists as A. Esemuratov, K. Maksetov, K. Berdimuratov were the heads of the department until 1964. Since 1964  this department was divided into two: the department of the Karakalpak language and the department of Karakalpak literature. The head of the department of Karakalpak literature in 1965 was Doctor of Philology, Professor K. Aymbetov, since 1974 Associate Professor J.Narymbetov, since 1976 Associate Professor K.Mambetov, since 1983 Prof. S. Akhmetov, since 1992, Professor A. Pakhratdinov. And also in 1992 the Department was divided into two: 1) the department of the history of Karakalpak literature and folklore; 2) the department of modern Karakalpak literature and literary theory.
 Since 1994 the head of the department of the history of Karakalpak literature and folklore had become Dr. K. Pakhratdinov, and the head of the department of modern Karakalpak literature and literary theory had become Professor K. Mambetov.
Since 1978 the post-graduate school had been opened at the department, since 1994 the doctoral program, since 2012 the institute of the senior scientific applicant and since 2017 basic doctorate has been working. Since 2005, the aforementioned departments had been connected and as a result, the department of Karakalpak literature had appeared. The head of this department was the doctor of philological sciences, professor K.Zharimbetov. In 2008, the department was again divided into two: 1) the department of the history of Karakalpak literature and folklore; 2) Department of Literature Theory and Literature Teaching Methodology. In 2012-2017 Associate Professor J.Nizamaddinov became the head of the department of the history of Karakalpak literature and folklore. In 2008-2010 prof. K.Orazymbetov  became the head of the department of theory of literature and methods of teaching literature. And from 2010-2012 Candidate of Philological Sciences A.Dosymbetova became the head of the department, and 2012-2017 Associate Professor K. Yusupov was the head of the department. In the 2015-2016 academic year, the Department of Literature Theory and Literature Teaching Methodology was renamed as the Department of Karakalpak language and literature. The faculty for teaching the Karakalpak language, which works in other groups that conduct training sessions in other languages, were added to its membership. In 2017, the above-named departments were merged and reorganized as the Department of Karakalpak literature. Until December 2017 the head of this department was Assoc. K. Yusupov, since December 2017 Candidate of Philological Sciences A. Dosymbetova.
At the department in the collective authorship was fulfilled such work as the «History of Karakalpak literature» (1983). Including some of the members of the department such educational materials as “Ancient Karakalpak literature” (1976), “Karakalpak literature of the ancient period” K. Mambetova (1992), “Karakalpak literary criticism” S. Akhmetov (1994), “ Karakalpak literature of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries ”by A. Pakhratdinov (1995) and others were  prepared and released.
2005 year became a significant year for the department. Because this year 2 doctoral dissertations in literature were defended and this was a huge achievement in the history of Karakalpak literature. As a result, members of the department K.Zharimbetov and K.Orazymbetov became doctors of philological sciences in the field of literature.
At this time, there are 2 doctors of sciences, professors, 8 candidates of sciences, associate professors, 2 PhDs and 4 teaching assistants working at the department. Scientific degree is 75%. Basic doctoral students of the department conduct research work in their areas.
The department conducts research work on such issues as «Poetics of Karakalpak folklore», «Poetics of Karakalpak classical literature», «Poetics of Karakalpak literature of the twentieth century.» The department is preparing textbooks, teaching aids for higher and secondary special educational institutions, as well as for secondary schools. Under the authorship of Professor K.Zharimbetov, a textbook for the 10th grade of a general education institution (co-authored by S.Akhmetov and K.Mambetov) was prepared. And also prof. K.Zharimbetov in collaboration with prof. K.Orazymbetov prepared a textbook «Karakalpak literature» for a vocational college. And also prof. K.Zharimbetov prepared and published a textbook «Lessons of literary criticism» for the higher educational institution. Also prof. K.Orazymbetov  prepared and published the textbook «Theory of Verse» for bachelors and undergraduates of higher educational institutions. The staff of the department participates in national and international scientific and theoretical conferences with their reports.
The department constantly conducts scientific-theoretical and scientific-practical conferences on topical issues of modern Karakalpak literary criticism, as well as on issues related to anniversaries of famous writers, poets and scholars. For example, scientific theoretical conferences and literary evenings were held related to the creative work of great personalities of the literary word like Berdakh, Azhiniyaz, I. Yusupov, T. Kaipbergenov, as well as famous scientists like Acad. M.Nurmukhamedov, prof. S. Akhmetov, prof. K.Mambetov. Based on the materials of the conferences, scientific collections were compiled and published “The Artistic World of Berdakh” (2008), “Unfading Stars of Karakalpak Literature” (2014), “Top of Karakalpak Literature” (2017). Each year with the participation of members of the department“Days of Berdakh” (November), “Days of I. Yusupov and T. Kaipbergenov” (May) are held.
With the help of members of the department literary circles «Young philologist», «I. Yusupov and Karakalpak literature» were organized. In these literary circles there are talented young people who are interested in scientific and literary activities.
At the department work with gifted students is well organized and it gives its positive results. Under the guidance of prof. K.Zharimbetov in the 2016-2017 academic year undergraduate in the specialty «Literary Studies (Karakalpak literature)» M.Palymbetova, as well as under the guidance of Assoc. P.Nurzhanov in the 2017-2018 academic year, undergraduate student in the specialty «Literary criticism (Karakalpak literature)» Z. Aymbetova became Presidential Scholarship Winners of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The department conducts scientific work in the field of international cooperation. Including in the 2014-2015 academic year Assoc. Department B. Genzhemuratov conducted a one-year internship at the University named after Adam Mickiewicz in Poland. Professor of the department K.Zharimbetov participated in an international conference in the Republic of Turkmenistan dedicated to the works of the world famous poet Maktumkuly. And prof. K.Orazymbetov actively participated in the works of the international scientific-theoretical conference in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan dedicated to the works of the famous writer C.Aytmatov.

Dosymbetova Abadan Alievna, candidate of philological sciences. Born in 1978 in Karauzyak region. In 2001 she graduated from the magistracy in the specialty «Karakalpak language and literature» of KSU named after  Berdakh In 2008 she defended her thesis on the theme: “The artistic form in the lyrics of Sh. Seitov”. More than 30 scientific articles were published, as well as 2 textbooks. Since 2006 has been an assistant of the department, since 2017 an associate professor of the department. And since December 2017 she has been working as the head of the department of Karakalpak literature.

 

 

 

Zharimbetov Kurbanbay Kudaynazarovich, doctor of philological sciences, professor. Born in 1948 in the Kegeyli region. In 1970 he graduated from the Russian Language and Literature Department of  Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute. By specialty: «Philologist, teacher of Russian language and literature.» In 1985 he defended his thesis on the topic: «Karakalpak poetry of the period of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945)», and in 2005 his doctoral dissertation on the topic: «Genre peculiarities and the history of the development of Karakalpak lyricists of the nineteenth century.» Since 1998 – Associate Professor, and since 2010 – Professor. Under his authorship 2 monographs, 2 scientific essays, 3 textbooks, 3 manuals were published. He is the author of over 100 scientific articles. Under the supervision of prof. K.Zharimbetov 4 Ph.D., 2 doctoral theses (DSc), and 2 PhDs in Philology were defended. in 2011, he became “Honored Scientist of the Republic of Karakalpakstan”. Since 2012 he has been working as a professor in the department.
 
 
 
Orazymbetov Kuanyshbay Kelimbetovich, doctor of philological sciences, professor. Born in 1962 in Takhtakupyr region. In 1989 he graduated from Nukus State University with a degree in Philology, teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 1992 he defended his thesis on the topic: «The artistic searchings of modern Karakalpak lyricism (80s)», and in 2005 his doctoral thesis on the topic: «Evolution and typology of artistic forms of modern Karakalpak lyricism (1970-2000. ) «. Under his authorship 4 monographs, 2 scientific essays, 4 textbooks, 3 manuals were published. He is the author of over 150 scientific articles. He was awarded the «Certificate of Honor» (2000) of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In 1995 he became an associate professor, and in 2008 a professor. Under the supervision of prof. K.Orazymbetov  4 Ph.D. theses were defended. Since 2018 he has been working as a professor in the department.

 

 

 
Turdibaev Kunakbay Keunimzhaevich, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1972 in Takhtakupir region. In 1998, he graduated from Karakalpak State University with a degree in Philology, teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 2005 he defended his thesis on the topic: “Didactic lyrics in the 19th century Karakalpak literature (genre, ideological and thematic peculiarities)”. He is the author of 1 monograph, 1 textbook, 4 manuals, as well as over 30 scientific articles. He has been working as a dean of the faculty of Karakalpak philology since
2008.
 
 
 
Genzhemuratov Bakhtiyar Allambergenovich, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor. Born in 1959 in Takhtakupir region. In 1985 he graduated from Nukus State University with a degree in Philology, a teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 1997 he defended his thesis on the topic: “The poetry of Azhiniyaz”. He is the author of more than 40 scientific articles, 1 monograph, 1 textbook. He is also the author of 5 poetry collections. Some of his poems were published in the book “Anthology of Uzbek Poetry of the Twentieth Century”. He is the holder of the medal «Shukhrat» (2002), «Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan» (2017). He has been working as an assistant professor in the department since 2009.
 
 
 
 
Perdebay Nurzhanov, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor. Born in 1963 in the Chimbay region. In 1985 he graduated from Nukus State University with a degree in Philology, a teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 1994 he defended his thesis on the topic: “Dastan about the Karakalpaks” by T. Kayipbergenov – the first historical trilogy in the Karakalpak literature ”. He is the author of more than 200 scientific articles, 6 monographs, 2 textbooks, 2 manuals. Since 2010 he has been working as an assistant professor in the department.
Yusupov Konysbay Abylovich, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1964 in the Chimbay region. In 1986 he graduated from Nukus State University with a degree in Philology, a teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 2002 he defended his thesis on the topic: “The image of Aydos biy in Karakalpak literature”. He is the author of more than 70 scientific papers, including 4 textbooks. He was awarded the Certificate of Honor (1992, 1997) of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. He worked as the head of the department. Since 2017 he has been working as an associate professor.
 
 
 
Nizamaddinov Zhenisbay Minazhatdinovich, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1969 in the city of Nukus. In 1993  he graduated from Karakalpak State University with a degree in Philology, a teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 2000 he defended his thesis on the topic: “Karakalpak folk epos -“ Er Shora ”. In 2012-2017 works as head of the department of the history of Karakalpak literature and folklore. He is the author of more than 30 scientific papers. Since 2017 he has been working as an associate professor.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Allambergenova Patima Zholdasbayevna, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor. Born in 1969 in Khodzhely region. In 1991 she graduated from Karakalpak State University with a degree in Philology, a teacher of the Karakalpak language and literature. In 1999 she defended her thesis on the topic: “Maktumkuly’s poetic traditions in Karakalpak literature (based on materials of the 19th century  Karakalpak literature)”. She is the author of 1 textbook and more than 30 scientific articles. Since 2010 she has been working as an associate professor.
 

 

 

Jamilya Nurullaevna Sagidullaeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences. Born in 1981 in the city of Nukus. In 2004 she graduated from Karakalpak State University with a degree in Literary Studies (Karakalpak Literature). In 2010, she defended her thesis on the topic: “Style searchings in Karakalpak novels (on the example of Karakalpak novels of the 1980s)” She is the author of more than 30 scientific articles, 1 methodical manual. Since 2013 she has been working as an assistant professor of the department.

 

 
 
 
Kaniyazova Zhupargul Orynbaevna, Ph.D. in Philological Sciences (PhD). Born in 1980 in the Chimbay region. In 2003 she graduated from Karakalpak State University with a degree in Literary Studies (Karakalpak Literature). In 2018 she defended her Ph.D. thesis in philological sciences (PhD) on the topic: “Mastery of character creation in the novels of S.Seitov”. She is the author of more than 30 scientific articles, 2 manuals. Since 2006 she has been working as an assistant of the department.
Allambergenova Inabat Khasanbaevna Doctor of Philosophy in Philological Sciences (PhD). Born in 1976 in the city of Nukus. In 2002 she graduated from Karakalpak State University with a degree in Karakalpak Language and Literature. In 2018 she defended her doctoral thesis in philological sciences (PhD) on the topic: “Karakalpak folk tradition (genre peculiarities and classification)”. She is the author of more than 30 scientific articles, 1 methodical manual. Since 2009 she has been working as an assistant of the department.
