Revival of the Aral Sea

On

February 10, 2023, the Department of English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of KSU hosted an international conference on “Environmental protection and restoration”, held within the framework of cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea. This is an international conference, attended by the Vice-Rector for International Relations KSU T.Nurimbetov, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Dj.Kurbanbayev, representatives of KUSSO (Korea University Social Service Organization) Professor Do Seon Eur, Chuntaek Yim, Djemma Kim, as well as students of the Korean University together with students of KSU in order to mobilize efforts to restore the Aral Sea among the younger generation in Uzbekistan and Korea.

Currently, the Aral Sea has become a symbol of an ecological catastrophe caused by human activity. Nevertheless, awareness and active movement to solve this problem in the international community is still insufficient. Therefore, with the help of today’s international conference, we strive to attract more people to participate in saving the Aral Sea and to realize the importance of this process. After all, the drying of the bottom of the Aral Sea is considered as a problem not only of Karakalpakistan, but also of the whole world, which must be fought in a friendly community.

In the first part of the conference, informational and scientific reports on the most pressing problems of the Aral region were listened to, as well as our students made presentations about the Aral Sea, which attracted a lot of attention guests.

The second part included reports on already implemented projects in the Central Asian region and the Syrdarya and Aral River basins, presentations of new applied projects for the rehabilitation of the Aral Sea and adjacent areas. Of particular importance are such projects as the creation of a green belt in the eastern part of the sea, as well as the opening of a nursery for saigas.

All those present warmly thanked the organizers and participants.  There is no doubt that such events unite students of different courses and directions, and, most importantly, small but steady progress will cause global changes in order to protect the vital ecosystem on Earth. Someday the Aral Sea will become a symbol of hope, reconciliation of man and nature.
